For years, it had been their dream as a family: leaving their apartment in Hamburg and moving to the vast marshlands to begin a new chapter in life. But while Philipp quickly settles into their new reality, Britta finds herself increasingly estranged—lost in the silence, disconnected from herself.
Then she comes across the name Abelke Bleken. Nearly five hundred years separate Britta from the woman who defied not only storm tides but also the hostility of her village community—and who ultimately became the target of deadly accusations.
As Britta follows Abelke’s traces, past and present intertwine in a story of dependence and freedom, slander and resistance. What happens when an ancient story reaches into one’s own life? And how much of Abelke lives within Britta herself?
